What a weird thing smoking is and I can't stop it. I feel cosy, have a sense of well-being when I'm smoking, poisoning myself, killing myself slowly. Not so slowly maybe. I have all kinds of pains I don't want to know about and I know that's what they're from. But when I don't smoke I scarcely feel as if I'm living. I don't feel as if I'm living unless I'm killing myself. ~Russell Hoban, Turtle Diary, 1975

Good Bye Smoking
After a long time, you have finally decided to say good-bye to smoking. Good-bye to smoking means, a complete change in your way of living. Now, your first job is to bring a change in your normal routine.
You need to develop a brand new atmosphere for you. Developing a new atmosphere is also a part of exercise in quitting smoking. Make everything around you such that it will give a fresh feeling to you. For Instance, if you often smoke near the telephone then change its place.
Set a new timetable for you. Include the visit to gym in your daily routine. If going to gym is not possible then go for a morning walk or jog. This is the healthiest way for the beginning of the day.
Take care that getting started is easy, but making it a routine is a little tough.
People often begin in a great way, such as buying tracksuits, gym wear or running shoes and enjoy a lot the earlier days in gym. But, as the time passes they take it as a burden and find it difficult to manage their time for gym.
There is a common mistake done by most of us. We go to gym, in evening. In evening, we are completely tired and no more enthusiasm is left on us. So, it would be beneficial to go the gym in the morning. In the morning, we are fresh after a long rest. Secondly, exercise enhances the flow of blood in the body and gives us more energy. Moreover, our exercise program will not effect in the morning and we can make plan for the day.
Fresher should do exercise under the expert guidance. A professional trainer is must for a proper start. One can also go for a few simple exercises that do not need any trainer. Swimming and walking are also the best form of exercises. You only need to get up early in the morning and enjoy the fresh and pollution-less city.
Go for tea instead of coffee, clean your houses and try to divert from everything that reminds you of smoking.
Do something interesting in evening, but take care not to play on money. Create a list of those things that stresses you and try to avoid them completely. Never make excuses for smoking. For instance, stress is the most common excuse. But you can de-stress yourself by doing something more creative such as breathing exercises or meditating.
Thus, apply these steps in your routine and say good-bye to smoking.

Smoking Affects Mother's Womb
Smoking is much dangerous for a pregnant woman than any other person. Smoking affects your unborn child. If you are going to plan your family or are already pregnant, then you need to concentrate on facts related to smoking. A Mother always wants to give a healthy and fit life to her baby. But continuing with your smoking are you really fulfilling your wish?
When you take a puff then the smoke that you inhale goes into your baby’s body. It affects his weight resulting into less resistant body. Smoking affects his height too. Such babies whose mothers had smoked during their pregnancies are generally short in height. This possibility is much less in case of the women who smoke a full pack during pregnancy. At this stage even no physician suggests to continue this habit. Baby’s body needs more supply of oxygen to survive in mother’s womb. Supply of nicotine deprives a baby to consume his share of oxygen. Such children are not able to adjust socially than children of non smoking mothers.
Studies show that possibility of infant morality is 50 percent higher when the mother smokes than in case of non -smoking mothers. Children of many smokers die of sudden infant death syndrome, or crib death. If pregnant women stop smoking by their fourth month of pregnancy then still they are out of danger zone.
Parenting is a tough job. If you do not sound well in your health then how will you be able to take care of your child? Most women suffer from lung cancer that is a deadly disease. A child always seeks for his mother’s shelter. If you want to be there all time for your child, then you need to stop smoking at once.
Passive smokers are more prone to the diseases than chain smokers are. This applies on children also. As a matter of fact, they are too sensitive to problems raised by the passive smoking.
By quitting the smoking you are rendering a new life to your child. You and your child both will enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Quitting smoking is not an easy thing to do for the usual smokers. But alternatives will certainly work for you. There are many support centers that can help you out. Just enroll yourself in them. You can see your health care provider for solutions and suggestions. Your one step to quitting the smoking will lead your unborn to the path of a safe child.

Smoking And Pregnancy
Smoking, as such, is considered harmful for health. But, pregnancy is a state where one has to be very particular about certain habits, including smoking. You might have your reasons to smoke, but not at the cost of your health, and not at all at your baby’s expense. Who would not love to have a healthy baby? May be, smoking would-be mothers do not, or do they! If you are planning to have a baby, quit the habit of smoking first. Do not play around with your and your child’s health.
You may have a look into the effects of smoking on pregnant mothers. Nicotine and carbon monoxide are poisonous substances that can cause a lot of harm inside the body. During pregnancy, smoking leads to increase in the levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in the mother’s bloodstream. These substances have frightening effects on the mother’s body, as the blood vessels are constricted and restricted, effecting the supply of oxygen and nutrients. The baby is denied its full share of nutrients and oxygen, which hampers the growth of the baby. You can compare the whole scenario to your being hungry and being offered an insufficient amount of food laced with poisonous substances. When you smoke, this is what exactly your baby experiences.
Babies born to mothers who smoke during pregnancy are likely to be premature. If the pregnancy lasts a full term, the baby may be born underweight and small. Such babies need special care under medical supervision, which extends their stay in hospital.
During pregnancy, the baby of a smoking mother is denied proper oxygen, which can lead to miscarriages or fetal brain damage. Sudden infant death syndrome can be a result of smoking, according to certain studies. Smoking is found to affect the blood pressure of the developing baby. This adversely affects its development and the child’s learning ability, like attention deficit disorder retarded mental growth. The child may also develop respiratory problems like asthma, when young.
Once your baby is born, it still is needed to be protected from smoking. Smoking leads to reduction in milk supply, and can hamper breastfeeding. Moreover, the baby gets a fair dose of nicotine through breast milk, which can cause illness in the form of diarrhea, nausea, colic etc. Second hand smoke is not good for the baby, since it affects the lungs through the nicotine it inhales. You would not like your baby to develop breathing problems.
Smoking Affects Our Health
There are no physical reasons to start smoking. The body doesn't need tobacco the way it needs food, water, sleep, and exercise. In fact, many of the chemicals in cigarettes, like nicotine and cyanide, are actually poisons that can kill in high enough doses.
The body is smart. It goes on the defense when it's being poisoned. For this reason, many people find it takes several tries to get started smoking: First-time smokers often feel pain or burning in the throat and lungs, and some people feel sick or even throw up the first few times they try tobacco.
The consequences of this poisoning happen gradually. Over the long term, smoking leads people to develop health problems like heart disease, stroke, emphysema (breakdown of lung tissue), and many types of cancer — including lung, throat, stomach, and bladder cancer. People who smoke also have an increased risk of infections like bronchitis and pneumonia.
These diseases limit a person's ability to be normally active, and they can be fatal. Each time a smoker lights up, that single cigarette takes about 5 to 20 minutes off the person's life.
Smokers not only develop wrinkles and yellow teeth, they also lose bone density, which increases their risk of osteoporosis (pronounced: ahs-tee-o-puh-row-sus), a condition that causes older people to become bent over and their bones to break more easily. Smokers also tend to be less active than nonsmokers because smoking affects lung power.
Smoking can also cause fertility problems and can impact sexual health in both men and women. Girls who are on the pill or other hormone-based methods of birth control (like the patch or the ring) increase their risk of serious health problems, such as heart attacks, if they smoke.
The consequences of smoking may seem very far off, but long-term health problems aren't the only hazard of smoking. Nicotine and the other toxins in cigarettes, cigars, and pipes can affect a person's body quickly, which means that teen smokers experience many of these problems:
Bad skin: Because smoking restricts blood vessels, it can prevent oxygen and nutrients from getting to the skin — which is why smokers often appear pale and unhealthy. An Italian study also linked smoking to an increased risk of getting a type of skin rash called psoriasis.
Bad breath: Cigarettes leave smokers with a condition called halitosis, or persistent bad breath.
Bad-smelling clothes and hair: The smell of stale smoke tends to linger — not just on people's clothing, but on their hair, furniture, and cars. And it's often hard to get the smell of smoke out.
Reduced athletic performance: People who smoke usually can't compete with nonsmoking peers because the physical effects of smoking (like rapid heartbeat, decreased circulation, and shortness of breath) impair sports performance.
Greater risk of injury and slower healing time: Smoking affects the body's ability to produce collagen, so common sports injuries, such as damage to tendons and ligaments, will heal more slowly in smokers than nonsmokers.
Increased risk of illness: Studies show that smokers get more colds, flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia than nonsmokers. And people with certain health conditions, like asthma, become more sick if they smoke (and often if they're just around people who smoke). Because teens who smoke as a way to manage weight often light up instead of eating, their bodies lack the nutrients they need to grow, develop, and fight off illness properly.

Stopping Smoking and Weight Gain
Many smoking cessation products claim to guarantee that the client or user will gain no weight when they undertake their method. Some products even claim that they will help you LOSE wight while quitting. Does this sound too good to be true.
Clients to my hypnotherapy practice often expect me to assure them that they will not gain any weight when they stop smoking. This is not the case. They should fully expect to gain weight, but no more than 2-4 pounds once they become a non-smoker.
It is a fact that smoking causes your cells to dehydrate. If you don't believe me, take a look at the skin quality of a 40-year smoker compared to a non-smoker. When you become a non-smoker your body is going to naturally re-hydrate those cells. This is not fat. This is not even "water retention" It is simply going to be water that your cells really need.
Most people would rather be 2-4 pounds heavier and a non-smoker, than 2-4 pounds lighter and a smoker. Some people worry that they are going to crave sweets or other "bad" foods once they stop smoking. Good hypnotherapy completely eliminates any notion of craving.
Of course you always have a choice to eat whatever you wish but you do not need to fear that you will automatically substitute "bad" foods for cigarettes, it simply will not happen.
My suggestion? Quit smoking first, then tackle any weight reduction issues. Smoking is by far the most immediate threat in most cases.

Exercise and Quitting Smoking
When you plan to stop smoking, bring about other changes in your life style as well. Take a look at all those things that have become a kind of routine and break that routine. Try to do things differently and will make a lot of difference.
What we are trying to do as part of this exercise is that we are trying to create a new environment for you. It is not possible for you to shift to a new apartment so bring about a few changes in the way things are as part of your exercise to quit smoking. Let every thing have a new feel about it. If there was a favorite chair in which you used to sit when you smoked, change the upholstery of the chair or maybe you could stash away the chair into a corner.
Try to set a new routine. Try working out or going to the gym. If that is not possible, try waking up a little earlier and go for a short morning walk. If you can make that a run or a jog, it is going to be very stimulating and is going to be the best way to start your day. Exercise does not necessarily mean pumping metal. If you do have the time to go to a gymnasium everyday, then that is well and good. But I suppose most of us do not have the time for a regular work out in a gym. So what is the other alternative? Do it at home of course. But whether it is at home or at a multi-gym, there is something that I want to tell you. Regularity is the rule of the day. It is not getting started that is the difficult part, it is sticking to a regular exercise routine that is difficult and this is what proves to be the stumbling block for most people.
Most people have a wonderful start. In fact it is truly spectacular. They buy track suits and gym-wear, running shoes and a whole lot of other gear. Their first day at the gym is almost a celebration. Then as the days go on, they find it increasingly difficult to meet the domestic and professional demands and so their routine slows down and finally comes to a complete workout burn out. One mistake that many people make is that they choose the evenings or a work out. If that can suit your lifestyle, then that's fine. But for most of us, by the time the evening lifts up its curtains we are completely pooped. We find ourselves physically and mentally drained. And at that time our bodies will be just too tired for a work out. So it is best to set aside some time for exercise in the morning itself.
There are two advantages of setting apart time in the morning. The first advantage is that in the morning our bodies are fresh and full of energy. Now over here I want to make one point clear. Many people believe that exercise depletes the body of energy but the case is just the opposite. Exercise pumps up more blood through the different parts of the body and warms up the body, so in fact, after exercise we feel more charged and ready to face the challenges of the day.
The second advantage is that in the morning we can plan for the whole day without letting the exercise routine affect the rest of our activities.
What about those of us who have never worked out before? In such cases you might need to start off under the personal supervision of an instructor and that may require that you go to a gym. But what I would suggest is that there are two simple things that any one can do for which you do not need the help of any instructor.
You know what these are? They are walking and swimming. Any body can walk and those of you who know how to swim can swim. For these two activities you do not need much gear and experts say that these two exercises have no side effects and are excellent stress busters. So, in the morning wake up just half an hour earlier, put on your walking shoes and hit the roads. Most roads will be less crowded at this hour and less polluted too. It is a wonderful way to start a day.
Take a break form coffee and try tea instead. If you are moving around the house, try playing music. Redecorate your room by adding a few pictures here and there preferably of scenery. And while you are redecorating, do what I mentioned earlier that is get rid of every thing that even remotely reminds you of smoking.
Plan your day in such a way that you have something enjoyable to do at the end of the day. It does not have t be something that involves money. We do not want you end up bankrupt. It can be something as simple as spending some time with the family playing a board game or something. Or it can be going out for a walk together.
But I would like to add that watching television just does not fit into this list. The reason is because T.V is not something that demands too much of our attention. We can easily do something else while we are watching TV and what can be easier than taking a smoke while our eyes are glued to the T.V. While you are working on breaking the habit of smoking, you need to move about with people. You need the company of people who can take your mind off that craving and TV doesn't help you do that. Make a list of those things that build up your stress. Try to steer clear of them. If that is not possible try to find out some stress busters and use them. Do not use stress as an excuse to start smoking. There are a hundred other methods of beating stress. As mentioned earlier, you could try breathing exercises, mediation or even music. There is another excellent way of beating stress and that is using the distressing ball. If you do not have one of those, try wriggling your fingers and toes. That too is a natural method of beating stress. The point that we are trying to drive home over here is that you need a break from whatever you have been doing for this exercise of quitting to work. Since it is impossible to change your job or your home, you have to bring about as many changes as possible to get that whole new feeling.
400,000 Reasons to Stop Smoking
Most of us know that smoking is indeed a habit that can have many serious implications on our health, but there's a tendency to view the problem lightly. It's important though, that every smoker be aware of the facts concerning smoking. So here are some eye openers for you... The World Health Organization has been studying smoking trends and statistical patterns across the globe and has come up with the following statistics: A good deal of variation exists from one part of the world to another. Many more women smoke in Eastern Europe than in East Asia and the Pacific Region. Eastern Europe itself has a particularly high rate of smoking, with up to 59 percent of adult males smoking. As with other substances of abuse, such as alcohol and cocaine, the global frequency of tobacco use varies by social class, historical era, and culture. Historically, smoking had been a pastime of the rich. This trend has changed dramatically in recent decades. It appears that economically advantaged men in wealthier countries have been smoking less. The more years of education you've had, the less likely you are to be a smoker. Most smokers begin early in life, before they are 25 years old. According to World Health Organization studies, the majority of smokers in affluent countries begin in their teens. A decline in the age of starting smoking has been observed worldwide. As a wannabe quitter, you're in excellent company. People all over the world are trying to quit and stay away from cigarettes. There appears to be a correlation between a country's standard of living, level of education, and income and the number of people who have quit smoking. The more and better-informed people are, the more likely they are to quit smoking. Current estimates are that over 1 billion people in the world smoke. (In other words, approximately one in three adults on the planet smokes.) The majority of these smokers reside in countries on the low end to the middle of the socioeconomic spectrum. Of this majority, about 80% live in low and middle income countries. The total number of smokers worldwide is expected to keep increasing. But are things in the USA any better? Not really, as you can see for yourself in the figures of National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics In the United States, an estimated 25.6 million men (25.2%) and 22.6 million women (20.7%) are smokers. These people are at higher risk of heart attack and stroke. The latest estimates for persons age 18 and older show: - Among whites, 25.1 percent of men and 21.7 percent of women smoke - Among black or African Americans, 27.6 percent of men and 18.0 percent of women smoke - Among Hispanics/Latinos, 23.2 percent of men and 12.5 percent of women smoke - Among Asians (only), 21.3 percent of men and 6.9 percent of women smoke - Among American Indians/Alaska Natives (only), 32.0 percent of men and 36.9 percent of women smoke Studies show that smoking prevalence is higher among those with 9-11 years of education (35.4 percent) compared with those with more than 16 years of education (11.6 percent). It's highest among persons living below the poverty level (33.3 percent). And These Figures Spell Death... ·One out of every five deaths is caused by tobacco ·An average of 400,000 Americans die each year from tobacco ·Tobacco is blamed for many serious pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases ·Tobacco and nicotine are some of the most potent carcinogens and are to blame for a majority of all cancers of the lung, trachea, bronchus, larynx, and esophagus ·Tobacco use also produces cancers in the pancreas, kidney, bladder, and cervix ·Impotency is sometimes to blame from addiction to nicotine because of its ability to reduce blood flow ·Smoking is an important risk factor for respiratory illnesses, causing 85,000 deaths per year from pulmonary diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia ·Children and adolescents who are active smokers will have increasingly severe respiratory illness, as they grow older ·Smoking during pregnancy causes about 5-6% of prenatal deaths, 17-26% of low-birth-weight births, and 7-10% of pre-term deliveries, and it increases the risk of miscarriage and fetal growth retardation ·Cigarettes are responsible for about 25% of deaths from residential fires, causing nearly 1,000 fire-related deaths and 3,300 injuries each year So, are you ready to try and quit smoking now? Stop Smoking With Nature's Help
Smoking is very dangerous to your health. Most smokers feel that there is nothing that they haven't tried in order to quit. However, they may not be aware of the many natural means available which others have used to finally end this very destructive habit. It is possible to quit smoking, if you devise a plan, cleanse and support the body and use natural methods to curb nicotine cravings.
Most, if not all, people in the United States believe that smoking is unhealthy. Why then do people smoke? The answer lies in the addictive nature of nicotine. Over 80 percent of smokers declare that they want to quit and plan to do so at some point. Even heroin addicts admit that nicotine is truly the hardest drug habit to kick.
Almost one-third of cases of pancreatic carcinoma can be attributed to cigarette smoking. Most lung cancers are caused by cigarette smoking. (Smokers are five to ten times more likely to suffer from lung cancer than nonsmokers). The more cigarettes you smoke per day and the earlier you started smoking, the greater the risk of lung cancer.Children of smokers have an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome, respiratory infections and lung cancer. Children of smokers have a much higher incidence and severity of asthma, bronchitis, colds and ear infections. They also have impaired lung development and reduced lung function tests. American Journal of Public Health, p. 209, Feb. 1989)
If you eat a balanced diet, drink a lot of clean water and take a vitamin supplement daily, you may feel that you are generally healthy. However, if you smoke, this is typically not the case. Heavy smokers do not get as much of a benefit from a healthy diet. Blood levels of Vitamin C are much lower in smokers. Zinc, Vitamin A and folic acid are often depleted in the bodies of smokers.
Now that we have covered just a few of the negative effects of smoking on the body, let's figure out how to quit - and without drugs! It may come as a surprise to you that there is a way to be free of this horrible addiction without using prescription medication for help. Let now cover some ideas on how to actually go about quitting.
Have you tried to quit before and failed? Did you quit for awhile and then start again? You may feel that because you tried and failed, that it proves that you can't quit. However, this is not the case. In reality, you get points each time you attempt to quit. You inevitably learned something each time you tried, which gets you that much closer to being successful in quitting. Most quitters did not do it on their first try. So just think of it as your "practice" run.
A main part of your quit smoking plan, is to figure out which interventions you will use when you are hit with a craving to smoke. Try to avoid being around other smokers. Learn some deep breathing exercises that you can use to de-stress. Exercise is also a great way to limit stress and keep you busy. You can use echinacea to help flush the nicotine out of the lymph system and lungs. Vitamin C is a great chelator of toxic substances in the body. (Which means it will "grab" the offenders and flush them out through the waste system). A usual dose of C is 1000 mg four times per day. N-Acetyl-cysteine 1000 mg, two doses of glutamine 1000 mg, four capsules of Evening Primrose Oils and 20 Sun Wellness Chlorella tabs are a good regimine for removing nicotine toxicity from the body.
It is important during your detox and quitting time that you "avoid junk foods and sugar that aggravate cravings" (Page p.548) Ginseng can help you to normalize sugar cravings, as can stevia, stevioside or FOS. Trace mineral and mineral deficiencies can play a part in some addictions. Magnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc should all be included in the diet when trying to quit smoking. The main concern when quitting tobacco are the cravings! There are many choices when it comes to this issue. Essential oils, vitamins and herbal teas are all on the list of items in the "cravings" category.
Eating a diet which promotes body alkalinity is said to show less desire for tobacco. To calm your nerves, try Magnesium 800 mg daily, stress B-complex 100 mg daily, valerian/wild lettuce drops in water. (Page, p.548) Young Living Essential Oils offers a blend called "Peace and Calming" which, some people have reported, was all they needed during their quitting time.
Oil of clove is also reported by many people to be extremely effective in their war with nicotine cravings. In Stanley Burrough's "Master Cleanser" book, he states "For those who wish to quit smoking, place a small amount (of clove oil) on your finger - place it on back of the tongue and you immediately lose your desire to smoke. This is an easy way if you really want to quit." Peppermint oil has also been reported to be effective. Just a touch of it on the tongue, in the same manner as you apply the clove oil will do it.
Single oils which may be helpful in smoking cessation in addition to clove and peppermint, are cinnamon and nutmeg. Other blends of oils recommended for reducing addictive behavior are Harmony, Thieves, Exodus II, Peace and Calming, JuvaCleanse and JuvaFlex. These can be directly inhaled or diffused, applied topically on the temples and/or back of the neck four times daily, or used as a warm compress over the liver.
Quitting smoking is not an easy task to undertake. However, if you give your body the right tools, you can repair the damage done by smoking, you can reduce your cravings and YOU CAN QUIT! Try some of these simple, natural and effective helpers. Nature is the best medicine, so believe in yourself and watch it happen!!
Smoking In Your Mind
Have you ever heard someone say, I could do it if I could just set my mind to it. Have you ever uttered these words, even just to yourself? You can you know. And me too. I really can achieve what I set my mind to. This belief has pulled me out many times from difficult situations, and for anyone discovering this feeling, you cannot describe the power inside. No bragging, just quiet confidence.
Have you heard about the story of mothers pulling great weights off their sons or daughters in order to save their lives. And then find out that the weight they lifted was virtually impossible! Tell that to a mother who is trying to save her children. There is no impossible in her mind. There is no other acceptable alternative other than total and complete success.
You can use this principle! We will move heaven and earth when we feel it is important to do so. You really can get anything you want in life if you set your mind to it. The timing and strategy may change, but the result is in the bank, 'if you set your mind to it.'
OK. You have my curiosity stoked, you say. Now you ask, how do you set your mind to it? Ahhhh. There's the rub. The question of the ages rears it ugly head once again.
I have written a success story of mine below. I am not proud of where I was, I am proud of how I handled it and came back.
1987 - This period of my life was both the worst time of my life and the best time of my life. Anyone hitting rock bottom can relate.
That year 1987, my life was in the "crapper". I was in a downward spiral, and couldn't seem to stop myself from ruining not only my life but my family's too. I was drifting away from the very people who were most important to me.
It's funny that even when you know that you are screwing up, you sometimes can't seem to make change. That's when you sometimes get lucky. I was drinking heavily, an alcoholic by definition, not by belief. I was up late drinking myself into a stuporand fell asleep with a lit cigarette in the ash tray. When I woke up the next morning, the cigarette had burned down, fell out of the ash tray onto the coffee table and burned a thin streak into the wood. Now you would think that this would shake anybody up, but, this wasn't the catalyst! No. When our little girl Sheri came down this particular morning, she remarked, horrified, that I could have burned the house down! I could have died just from the look on her face. Well, I would move mountains for my family so it was enough of a picture that I gave up smoking right then and there. March 5, 1987 My focus was laser concentrated, quitting smoking was the most important thing to do in my life at this time. If you notice, I never said that I gave up drinking there. No. Not enough leverage for that one yet. Later that year we were at a friend's wedding, and I still was drinking heavily. Probably more heavily if that could be possible. It's a wonder that I didn't get alcohol poisoning, I had no problem downing whole cases of beer, and requesting more. (24 packs in Ontario, where we were living at the time.) When we came home that night, my wife and I got into an argument, and after verbally abusing her, the argument elevated. I HIT HER. I struck my wife, a little more than 115-120 lbs soaking wet! What a big man I was. The argument continued for another few minutes, but she picked up the kids and left the house for her mothers. At that instant, I realized even through my drunkenness that I had crossed the line.
When the next morning came, and I had sobered up a little, I could have cut my right arm off. In my life, I had swore that I would never become one who would beat on their wife. And I had hit her physically. I have never had another alcoholic drink since that time. July 18, 1987. Quit cold turkey, with leverage that few people get to feel. Thank God for that. And of course I never hit her again. She is absolutely the most important person in my life, and I try to demonstrate that daily. Change took on a whole new importance to me. I had tremendous leverage on myself. I had crossed a line in my mind, a threshold, that gave me absolute power over my actions. That is where we have to be when we expect change to last.
Strong Steps:
1. Decision to Commit - Pure resolve that I am doing it. No matter what, whatever it takes. There is no option acceptable other than to do it.
2. Great Reasons that move me to ACTION! Strong Empowering Emotional Reasons WHY I must do this.
3. Connection to what's already important. Anchoring positive thoughts over negative to control focus. Look forward to your new future.
4. Associating with people who have done it or are doing it. Immerse myself.
5. Change My Identity, to a Self Image that is consistent with what I want.
I use these strategies in conjunction with each other. It does however depend on the habit you want to create or replace.
More later at another time, this will give you a great place to start. Go for it!

Smoking and Family
53 years ago I had a friend and she was a girl.(not an official Girlfriend)...
Her mom smoked and worked during the day so daughter used to pinch her smokes and shared them with me. Both my parents smoked as well.
So off and on I got used to smoking; my smoking got a real boost when I became a sailor at the age of 17, because you could buy cigarettes tax-free when you were outside territorial waters. Over time I started smoking more and more cigarettes and had to get up a couple of times a night to have another nicotine fix. Life without cigarettes was just not imaginable. Going on an airline trip was sheer torture because I could not smoke for a couple of hours. We flew to Singapore once and I had a couple of smokes in the washroom in spite of the fact that airplanes were already putting people in jail for smoking.
My dad's only sibling died of lung cancer. My mom died of a brain tumor-she used to be a heavy smoker. My dad got lung cancer. After he got lung cancer he visited me; he was a pathetic skin over bones man now, wearing a corduroy suit, BUT STILL SMOKING IN MY GARAGE. My brother's wife has breast cancer; my brother still smokes cigars. I started having coughing spells at night and the vision in my left eye was deteriorating.
Me quitting smoking? Impossible- I have no willpower.
I knew I could not quit I never even bothered to buy Nicorette or any other stuff. So, after a whole lifetime of smoking I was going to die of lung cancer too.
On September 4, 2002 I was in Calgary browsing in a bookstore called Brown and Noble and a book jumped out at me.
The book was called "How to stop smoking" and had 385 pages in it.
I glanced at the first couple of pages where the author boasted that this book was the only way to quit smoking without any withdrawal symptoms or without the Patch.
I bought the book because I was curious as to what you could write 385 pages about how to quit smoking.
It took me 9 days to read the book.
On September 13, 2002 at 3 PM I took my last drag and exhaled it through a Kleenex.
That was my last cigarette. I have never even thought about smoking. People can smoke around me and I don't give it a thought.
This book changes your mindset its called "How to stop smoking" by Allan Carr, a British Accountant and is not available in the United States.
I no longer cough at night and the vision in my left eye is fine now.

Smoking and Death
Some people are under misconception and take smoking as a hobby. According to recent studies conducted by AMA, American Lung and Heart Associations and the American Cancer society smoking is one of the main causes of premature death. Smoking means you are giving to yourself a slow poison treatment. Smoking does not only meteorites the smoker’s health but it also affects the nearby standing person like your kids as their organs are on developing stage.
Smoking Problem:
It has become an accepted fact worldwide that cigarette smoking is the main agent of avoidable and premature death rate. It results in one in five deaths in United States. The data shows the deaths of over 400,000 people from 1995 to 1999 in U.S per year. Smoking acts as a catalyst in lung cancer, coronary heart diseases and chronic airway obstruction.
If we exclude adult deaths which is commonly a result of secondhand smoke, we see that both adult males and females have lost on an around 13 to14 years of their life expectancy. If this pace of consummation of tobacco goes on then approximately 6.4 million children will loose their lives prematurely. Economy has to endure the expenditure of over $100 billions in health care costs annually which results in loss of productivity including the death rate and medical expenses. Smoking has direct relation to the sources causing the lung cancer, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
The primary cause of the death in U.S is cardiovascular disease which is again partially an outcome of the tobacco use. A survey shows the deaths of 65000 women who died of the lung cancer and 85000 men who died of lung and bronchus diseases. This shows that smoking is much injurious to health than the most people are aware about its harmful effects. This data should act as a statuary warning for people but instead of becoming aware they get back to the same habit again.
Some people do want to quit smoking and some even tries to make an attempt which is good starting for a good cause as done in 2001 by many people but to increase this figure it is essential that the victims should be encourage so that he may get counted in the list of successful.
Top 5 Reasons People Start Smoking
If we were to look at the mortality rate of smoking for smokers and nonsmokers it is mind boggling to consider why people actually start smoking. On a yearly basis over half a million people will die directly related to smoking. The majority of these people are smokers themselves but did you know that over 50,000 people die each year because of simply being exposed to secondhand smoke? So with numbers like these why do people smoke? For starters most people begin to smoke when they are young adults when they give little thought to whom they are hurting even themselves.
There are 5 main reasons why people start smoking:
1. When Rebellion
2. When Peer Pressure
3. When One or Both Parents Smoke
4. When A Role Model Smokes
5. When There is a Perceived Status Symbol - ie. being cool
During the teenage years it can be very stressful, trying to find their identity, fitting in, taking risks, and lets not forget being impulsive and indestructible. You know what I am talking about, we have all been there. Many young adults start smoking for these very reasons without fully understanding the risk they are taking. Many think that they will be able to quit at will and that they aren't hurting anyone. Studies have shown that nearly 6,000 teens, per day, under the age of 17 take up smoking while 34 percent of them will become regular smokers. That is over 700,000 young adults who start smoking each year.
Once a person becomes addicted to smoking, physically and psychologically, it can be extremely hard to quit. In the early stages of smoking it provides a pleasurable experience, bursts of energy, the feeling of being alert, and light headedness. But over time these affects dwindle away forcing the smoker to smoker more and more to try and obtain the same effect. Eventually it is too late and smokers have to continue to smoke to avoid nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Over time smoking also becomes a crutch for many, used to handle anxiety, boredom, stress, weight management, tension, etc.
The point is tobacco use is a problem in the United States, nearly 1 in 5 people smoke and as these people start dying off or quitting new victims need to be found and the target is set on the young adults of this country.
I Like Smoking Cigarettes
This is a great way to understand why we are smoking… Let’s try to define what is beautiful in smoking. Then we will try to understand the real reasons, and find out our excuses. I believe that this will help research our habit in a more profound way, and give us a new perspective on our being, our emotions, our own programming and conditioning, which on the long run surely will produce great results.
Be 100 % sure that results will come after researching and trying to quit smoking. The only unknown thing is how long it will take for you to make that little “click” when you will really decide that it’s enough. But you have to make that first step, to start research and trying to quit smoking.
I believe that there is some pleasure in smoking, mainly pleasure in enjoying with me alone. For example I can work and enjoy, I can relax when I want to, because the trigger in my brain tells me that I can feel relaxed with my cigarette, I can easily program my brain to feel pleasure whenever I want to. Wow, this sound like cigarettes are nice hobby that everyone wants to have it. However, the truth is that you’re killing yourself, so in a way you are shorting your pleasure in the long run. There is also the question of freedom, which tells us that there can be no free man or woman who is controlled by some habit.
So, what do you think? What is interesting in smoking cigarettes? Why do smokers smoke? Is there anything beautiful in puffing? What are the good feelings? What do non-smokers missing to experience and enjoy?
I’m expecting all smart people to give there opinion. These are hard questions, so try to give your best, and don’t be afraid to be honest that’s not good for you.
Hi Smokers, The key to quit smoking is RESEARCHING yourself. Just try to quit everyday and dont give up trying, you'll succeed. You CAN stop smoking and the key is hidden in you... maybe you should digg very deep... but it's there. Keep researching... smokerness.com
What is Smoking
Smoking refers to the inhalation and exhalation of fumes from burning tobacco in cigars, cigarettes and pipes. Historically, smoking as a practice, was followed by natives of the Western Hemisphere, in religious rituals and for medicinal purposes. It has a history starting from the late 1500s.
Explorers of the New World saw it fit to introduce tobacco into Europe, in-spite of the opposition from the then rulers. But the novelty and thrill factor won over many a new user. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, cigarettes were higher in demand than the cigars and pipes, which had been popular amongst smokers until then.
Health Effects of Smoking.
Tobacco smoke contains nicotine – a poisonous alkaloid – and other harmful substances like carbon monoxide, acrolein, ammonia, prussic acid and a number of aldehydes and tars. Health reports giving definitive proof that cigarette smoking is a serious health hazard have been submitted from time to time by the Surgeon General’s Advisory Committee on Health, appointed by the U.S. Public Health Service. Findings include that a smoker has a significantly greater chance of contracting lung cancer than a nonsmoker, depending on factors such as number of cigarettes smoked daily, number of years the subject smoked and the time in the person’s life when he or she began smoking.
Additionally, the report also gave proof of smoking being a primary cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
Smoking has proved to pose a threat to male potency. Pipe and cigar smokers are a comparatively fortunate lot as compared to cigarette smokers, if they do not inhale. They are not as prone to lung cancer as cigarette smokers. On the downside, the former set is just as likely to develop cancers of the mouth, larynx and esophagus. Groups of people indulging in snuff or chewing tobacco-a.k.a smokeless tobacco – also run a greater risk of developing cancer of the mouth.
